In the Community

Making a difference in the lives of children and families is part of the Supportkids culture—whether for our clients, our employees, or our community. Even as a small company, we enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community through individual and group hands-on service projects.

Read on to find out about how Supportkids employees apply their time, talents and enthusiasm to creating positive change in the community.

Food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank

Each year Supportkids hosts a food drive that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank. The food drive helps collect much needed food items to ensure that the food bank is stocked up for the holiday season. The Capital Area Food Bank in Austin is a non-profit organization that distributes millions of pounds of food each year to human service agencies in Central Texas.

American Red Cross Blood & Tissue Center of Central Texas

The Center’s Blood Mobile makes a stop every other month at the Supportkids’ headquarters so that our employees may give this special gift to the community. The Central Texas Blood & Tissue Center exclusively provides blood to 28 hospitals and specialty treatment facilities in 10 Central Texas counties.

Austin Stand Down

Austin Stand Down’s mission is to provide homeless citizens of Austin, Texas with access to services and resources necessary to reintegrate into the community and to promote public awareness about homelessness in Austin, Texas. Supportkids employees volunteer their time helping set up this annual event in which the homeless of Austin can find relief, safety and services.

Literacy Austin’s Team Scrabble tournament

In 2005, the loquacious lot from Supportkids was the repeat verbose victor of the second annual Literacy Austin Scrabble Championship game. The money raised during this event helps Literacy Austin continue to offer free literacy and English as a Second Language instruction to adults, 17 years or older, reading below the fifth-grade level. For many adults who lack reading, writing and math skills, this program can offer an important first step.

The Mom’s Room

A few years ago, Supportkids cleared an office for our employee moms to give them a space to rock and feed their babies with privacy, comfort and quiet. This special room is used frequently by the moms who work here.
